(Kingston, Jamaica) - Please note the
following points regarding the relief efforts in TCI
The Government has now divided
Providenciales into three zones for relief purposes .... Blue Hills, 5 Cays,
and The Pike. The Salvation Army has been assigned the 5 Cays zone which
is the largest zone.
Government is providing the Army with a
Community Center in the 5 Cays zone to serve as a distribution center.
They are also assigning 10 volunteers to the Army and will be directing
food and other supplies to the Army for distribution in the 5 Cays
The distribution center will begin
operating on Friday.
Government has requested the Salvation
Army to visit the shelters and encourage persons that are able to return to
their homes or find accommodations with family and friends. The goal is
to clear the schools that are being used as shelters so that school can resume
.... hopefully next week.
A donor is making arrangements with his
connections in Canada for a shipment of mattresses, tarpaulins, clothing,
school supplies, etc to distribute in TCI.
The reports we have received thus far
indicate that South Caicos is even more devastated than Providenciales. The
fact that the government has sent 3000 tarpaulins to Grand Turk is an
indication of the challenges there.
