The Salvation Army, Antigua District’s response
(Kingston, Jamaica) – The Salvation Army Caribbean Territory continues efforts to help persons affected by the devastation of Hurricane Irma.
St. Maarten: Captain Lapaix and his team, though challenged in many ways, have been assisting 35 persons who are accommodated in the Army shelter and persons in the surrounding communities of the Army. They have been offering counselling support to victims.
The Captain reported that the work is overwhelming and the needs are many, coupled with the sporadic unrest on the Island.
Antigua: The Salvation Army has organized a team to offer counselling to victims and continues to provide food, cleaning and personal care items to families and individuals.
The Barbuda evacuees will be in Antigua for a long period, yet to be determined by the Government. Plans are on the way to organize occasional returns to the Island for clean up and salvage.
