Officers’ Children Newsletter
January 2010
To all officer children of the Caribbean Territory
Dear friends,
This is the first of many newsletters from me as the Salvation Army Caribbean Territory seeks to form an Officers’ Children Association (OCA) beginning this year. This association will allow the various officers’ children presently living in and outside of our territory to have a voice on the advancement of the mission. I truly believe as Officers’ children you have one great advantage and that is you have an exciting and enriching spiritual and leadership heritage.
In many ways being an Officer’s child can be difficult because you know the ministry’s pain, challenges and disappointments and you have seen your parents go through many such experiences. But do not forget the joys, the fellowship and achievements that you have experienced and witnessed. Some persons have made friends for life with persons in the corps/institutions where your parents have worked and with other officer’s children. The ministry and vision can grow with each generation and impact more lives for God’s kingdom through you. Yes, it is hard but it is a privilege.
Some have put you in moulds of how they expect you to behave as an officer’s child but be yourself and allow God to use you. God loves you, so break the mould and reach out to Him. In this New Year, I am sure there will be challenges for each of you but hopefully those challenges will cause you to grow in your walk with God.
During the coming months the first meeting of the Officers’ Children Association will be held in Kingston, Jamaica. This OCA will be opened to all Officers’ Children (whatever the age). The details and agenda for this meeting will be circulated by the end of January 2010. You can make your contribution to the agenda items via email, lotus notes or facebook. The facebook group is The Salvation Army Caribbean Officers Children.
Therefore, as we begin this year, I pray that God will continue to give you the strength to trust him amidst everything happening around you.
Yours in Christ service,
Sherma Y. Evelyn
