The Salvation Army has responded and is still on The Ground in the Southern Part of Haiti 

Location: Haiti

On August 14, 2021, at 7: 39 AM many parts of the Caribbean and especially Haiti was awakened to the news of a 7.2 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale that struck the southern part of Haiti. This earthquake caused approximately 2,248 deaths, 12,763 injured; 329 missing and so many families have been displaced because of a ravaged housing solution. 

The Salvation Army through its Territorial Headquarters in Kingston, Jamaica met immediately to discuss and decide the way forward to respond to the victims of the August 14 earthquake, following which, an Incident command was set up to evaluate and respond immediately to the disaster. The incident command complement comprised of the Divisional Commander - Lieut. Colonel Emmanuel Supre, Southern area coordinator - Captain Chrisner Norrilus. Also, Major Reliere Janvier, Retired officer Colonel Lucien lamartiniere, Major Sonel Lubin, Major Timothee St Just, Mr. Henderson Mondesir and Lieut. Colonel Edeline Supre took the responsibility for Spiritual and Emotional Care. This team has done incredible work in leading the charge on behalf of the people of Haiti. 

Project aspect of the work: 

The territorial headquarters through the office of the project officer - Miss Tephanie Haughton and the disaster coordinator - Major Kenel Jean has been working day and night to help in this situation. Miss Tephanie Haughton was very instrumental in project writing with good coordination between Haiti through the divisional project officer - Captain Chavannes Charles and the International Headquarters in England; as a result, 9 projects have been approved to alleviate the burden in 9 areas in the Southern District of Haiti, they are as follows: L’azile, Aquin, Vieux Bourg, St Louis du Sud, Duverger, Petite Riviere de Nippes, La fosse, Caillot, and la Colline. All these areas have been badly affected and been assisted by the Salvation Army with the help of its partners. The Army has distributed food items, water, hot meals and hygiene kits to those communities. 

Plan for Rebuilding: 

The Salvation Army Caribbean Territory with the international partners has engaged from time to time to see how fast they assist with the rebuilding process so that the Haitian people can get back to a more comfortable life. Work has started to assess the damage of properties to include schools and in some cases, a semi-temporary building will be the option to secure the education of the children in the southern part of Haiti. 

The Caribbean Territory through the Emergency Disaster Services Department want to thank everyone who collaborated so far in helping the people of Haiti: The Leadership of the Territory, the Leadership of the Haiti Division, the territorial project officer, the Haiti divisional Project officer, The Incident Command Team for their hard work on the ground. Special appreciation is being expressed to the international communities; they have been very much involved in bringing relief to the territory. Even though a lot of work is still needed to be done, we are hopeful that with the help of the Almighty and our friends' generosity, we will accomplish much.
